The initial situation
ecotec has been successfully advising Biolac-MTS GmbH on natural gas procurement for nearly 20 years. The production facility has high and consistent natural gas consumption. To date, procurement has been based on a comfortable full supply contract with a tolerance band. Talks on the continuation of the gas supply contract did not lead to the desired result, partly because long-term price hedging on the futures market would not have been possible.
The idea and the approach
ecotec submitted a proposal to Biolac-MTS GmbH to request natural gas via the European natural gas procurement platform AggregateEU. Together with Biolac-MTS GmbH, ecotec prepared and implemented the two-stage registration process on the platform operated by PRISMA. Thanks to the right contacts and rapid analysis of the required processes, Biolac-MTS GmbH was able to register and participate in the tender as part of a “mid-term tender” within a short period of time.
The result is impressive: five suppliers submitted offers. In addition to long-term forward quantities until 2029, there are also competitive offers for the continuation of a full supply. Both offer Biolac-MTS GmbH the opportunity to either entirely or partly fix the price for 2028 and 2029, thus guaranteeing planning security and competitiveness.
Statement
Frank Wieland, Managing Director of Biolac-MTS GmbH:
“ecotec drew our attention to AggregateEU at an early stage and highlighted the opportunities for us. For the first time, we have the opportunity to purchase gas at favorable prices for the years up to 2029 and avoid high risk premiums from suppliers - something we were not aware of before. The registration and demand aggregation as well as the negotiations with the suppliers would not have been possible for us in terms of expertise and time. ecotec supported us professionally and made everything transparent.”
